I know a day is 24 hours long, but I would really rather not be awake for all of them. At least not so often.
This is one of my favourite love songs. I think it may be the most genuinely romantic song I’ve ever heard. It’s wonderful to sing, too.
Who can tell just how it starts
Angry words and broken hearts
Till silently we sit apart
You and I
But in a while the anger’s gone
And we forget who’s right or wrong
Then one of us will end it all
With just a smile
We believe in happy endings
Never breaking
Only bending
Taking time enough for mending
The hurt inside
We believe in new beginnings
Giving in
And forgiving
We believe happy endings
You and I
Just a word is all it takes
And suddenly
The silence breaks
And looking back it makes us ache
For what we’ve done
And so we cling together now
And wonder why we’re oh so proud
When all that matters anyhow
Is our love
We believe in happy endings
Never breaking
Only bending
Taking time enough for mending
The hurt inside
We believe in new beginnings
Giving in
And forgiving
We believe in happy endings
You and I
If I were on Twitter there would be days I’d tweet every 5-10 minutes. And today would be one of them.
Vancouver is a funny place. One of the things that makes it so is the inevitability of having your social worlds collide on a regular basis. Friends and I have noticed this and commented on it regularly over the years, but I keep being struck by how interconnected all my various networks really are.
Recent examples include meeting someone on the internet, then later realising that that person had dated a friend of mine, and was also part of a friendship circle that another friend of mine was associated with. Or meeting someone and then realising a couple months into knowing them that you used to play when you were little, and you have pictures of her dad from the early 1990s. Or recognising people off of the internet on the street, or as friends of friends on facebook. Or suddenly looking on someone’s facebook page, and seeing the friends they have in common with you are 7 people you know from 4 different parts of your life. Or meeting someone off an online dating site, who seems to be totally unconnected to you, and then finding out that an ex of his is friends with a whole bunch of your friends, that he is an acquaintance of another internet stranger you went on a date with a couple weeks before, running into someone he is friends with while on your date and realising you used to work at a summer camp with her 10 years before, and then a couple days later finding out that someone you know (that he was going to meet through you the next day) contacted him about buying an item of his online.
Seriously people. What is up?
Someone showed me this website a year or so ago, and I tracked it down again last week. It is fascinating. If anyone ever comes across the coffeetable book version of this project and gifts it to me I will probably have sex with them. Or at least bake them a cake.
There’s a secret that never dies/like a dance of hidden meanings that we never apprehend.
There are questions just as old as time/and the answers that come never quite make amends.
Even so, when you look at time/you can get a subtle feeling of the way it ought to be.
Take a good look at your own real life/and you’ll see if you want what you’ve gotten to be.
It’s a hope, a sign, a measure of quiet rapture/of love and what might come after.
It’s letting go, and letting no answer be an answer.
How did smoke learn how to fly?/Where do birds go off to die?
Why does coal sleep in darkness?/Do dreams live in apartness?
Is a number forever?/Where’s the soul of the water?
How old is old November?/No one here can remember.
If I die, where does time go?/Do the bees feel vertigo?
To get love - is there potion?/Or is love only motion
