Florence And The Machines – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) (Leo Zero Remix)
via Winnie Cooper:
“It’s one of those reworks where it doesn’t really grab you in the first 30 seconds, but it sort of slowly progresses and you get invited into it as more elements are added.
I realize that we’re pretty much the ADHD generation, so play this when you’ve got time to actually really listen to it.”

a palpable nostalgia
in my gut
hollow
rounded out with wisps of words and thoughts and memories swirling
that chest tightness
that sadness
that longing for something you can’t quite grasp
even with your mind
skin untouched and lonely
mouth dry and voice shaky, both unused
waltzing alone in the kitchen
bare feet and linoleum
eyes too dry
arms too empty
bed too cold
that wistful feeling
that weak smile
that heavy sigh
hungry belly
cravings no food can satisfy
needs that are wants
wants that are needs
nighttime
dawn and birdsong
sleep
Sometimes the internet just makes me sad.
Bridesmaids’ Carol/Lament for a Maidenhead
From Sappho Songs by composer Daron Hagen
Here is one of the songs (in two parts) from the contemporary song cycle of Sapphic poems I am learning, I think it might be my favourite section.
The recording is not the best, it was obviously just taken from the performance and it peaks out sometimes. But I’m thankful that the only performance of this piece was recorded, because I’m not sure how I would be learning this without some audio help. This is probably the easiest section of the half-hour piece. The number of accidentals and key signatures and time signatures involved, and the general um, contemporaryness of it is VERY challenging. My part covers just over two octaves (Eb3-F5). (Help?)
Coming to a performance space near you on August 22nd 2009, well, if you live in Vancouver.
