I really want a colouring book.

A big awesome one like there was in the drawer of the china cabinet at my grandparent’s place. One of the drawers had a couple decks of cards and a pack of crayons and a big glorious colouring book, with pictures of people or scenes, or animals, or other things. Some of the pages were scribbled all over, and outside the lines, some had been coloured in carefully and neatly, and some were full-page works of art, signed at the bottom with “Susan ‘77” or “David, ‘82.” A number of the pages were still only outlines, waiting t e filled in.

I own that china cabinet now, and it seems very empy without a drawer dedicated to some cards and some crayons and a thick fat colouring book.

Where can I find one?

SlutWalk: To march or not to march → rabble.ca

I feel way less personal pressure to write a big entry concerning SlutWalk at the moment, because this article by Harsha Walia is so very good. I’m happy to finally read a nuanced feminist critique addressing colonial and capitalist impacts on women, victim blaming, feminism, and the law. Please read this article.

Jessica Valenti: There are plenty of valid SlutWalk critiques... → jessicavalenti.tumblr.com

rocktopussy:

jessicavalenti:

But this one by Meghan Murphy that I’ve seen getting linked to a lot on Tumblr and elsewhere just isn’t one of them. The author cherry picked Facebook comments and deliberately mischaracterizes a quote by one of the SlutWalk founders to make it seem as if the organizers don’t identify as…

I’m extremely grateful for this. I’m still shaking my head over Murphy’s critiques, as I really don’t find them well-founded. I’m also very put off by the friendly demeanour she presented in our interview, to then subsequently rip us apart when we were not in any position to refute any of her claims.

I have a lot of things to say about the nascent SlutWalk movement, and feminism, and post-feminist/radical feminist essentializing, and anti-intellectualism, and language, and so on, but I never get around to it. *le sigh* This is a very sparse blog, spattered with random bits and pieces, but I can assure you that my thoughts themselves are not sparse, though they are certainly spattered with random bits and pieces.

I have decided that decorating my walls with softcore photos of my friends is not only totally reasonable, but a good idea.

Canada: I am disappoint.

therealkatiewest:

I guess Canadians don’t really care about honesty. Or respect for the law. Or healthcare. Or social programming. Or the environment. Or gay/queer/trans people. Or Native Canadians. Or women. Or the internet. Or freedom. Or any of those other things that I really care about.

That’s really interesting.

For those of you who voted, I think you did a really good thing. If you didn’t see your party win, don’t feel discouraged; you participated in a system that cannot work without you. And at least it seems like a lot of people came out to vote, which is really nice to see.

Let’s hope that in four years, we on the left can get our shit figured out so I don’t have to cry myself to sleep again on election night.

EDIT: I just thought of something. Only 40% of Canadians voted for the Conservative Party. The rest voted for a left party. That is awesome. And kinda shows how flawed our current system is:  60% of Canadians voted for someone other than the leader of their country.

I still have hope.

Canada, I love you with all my heart, but sometimes you make it hard to love you. But I believe in you. And I believe in us. And I know how good you can be. And I will not lay down and take it. They do not have my consent.
